Residential Polished Concrete Floor
Platinum Finish
Client: Resident in South Dublin
This residential project showcases a full platinum finish polished concrete floor, delivering both elegance and durability. Over five days, the entire ground floor surface was carefully ground, filled, refined, and sealed to create a flawless finish with a high-end sheen. The result is a low-maintenance, long-lasting floor that combines contemporary style with outstanding performance and is a perfect example of how PMAC brings precision and craftsmanship into every home project.

Day 1 – Initial Grinding
On an expertly poured concrete floor, the process began with the first grind using coarse diamond grit pads. This is the most aggressive stage of polishing, designed to cut back the concrete surface, open up the pores, and expose the aggregate as required. It also removes any surface contaminants and levels out high spots, creating a uniform base for subsequent steps.
Day 2 – Pore & Micro-hole Filling
Once the surface had been opened up, the next step was to fill micro-holes, hairline cracks, and pinholes. A thin layer of cement was spread across the floor. This penetrates into imperfections, ensuring the surface becomes denser and more consistent. Filling these voids is essential for achieving a smooth, polished finish later on.
Day 3 – Regrinding
The following day, the floor was ground again. This pass removes excess cement filler left on the surface while blending it seamlessly with the concrete. It also smooths down any roughness left behind from the initial coarse grind, refining the surface in preparation for edging and sealing.
Day 4 – Edge Work
Polishing machines cannot always reach tight areas such as edges, corners, and around columns. On day four, these awkward areas were ground by hand using smaller hand-held grinders with appropriate diamond pads. This step ensures consistency across the entire floor, with no rough or unfinished edges left behind.
Day 5 – Sealing & Final Buff
The final stage involved applying a sealer with a hand-pump sprayer. The sealer penetrates the concrete, hardening and protecting the surface while enhancing its appearance. Once cured, the floor was buffed to a smooth, uniform sheen, locking in the finish and giving it both durability and a professional polished look.
